Russell HS building

School History

Russell High School is located in Russell, Ontario, which lies approximately one half hour to the South-East of Ottawa. We are the first 7-12 school in the Upper Canada District School Board. We are a multiple intelligence school that focuses on the many different learning styles of our students. We have an excellent Student Success program at the school that helps support our students in being successful in school.

We have a very rich extra-curricular history at the school. Not only do we offer a wide range of varsity sports (cross-country, golf, soccer, basketball, volleyball, hockey, baseball, track and field, rugby), we also have open gym time for intermediate and secondary students. We provide numerous clubs and activities to promote the Arts, the school community, and the local and global communities (Link Crew, Student Council, Drama Club, Improv, Band, Pride Alliance, Breakfast for Learning, Relay for Life, 30-hour Famine).

We are an International Hub School, welcoming students from China, Spain, Australia, Mexico, Brazil to name just a few of the countries where our international students call home. We also are a SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) school. We have a SHSM in transportation and have recently added a second in Information Technology. Students who are part of this program not only develop a specialist in transportation or technology, they gain real-life work experiences in the field, complete industry regulated certifications, and a diploma with an embossed red seal.

Our staff at RHS is committed to providing programming pathways for all of our students. We create a caring learning environment where students are successful both in their academics and in develop the caring values of being good citizens. Our motto of “Student Success, Character Always!” is evident in all we do. Come join the Timberwolf team at RHS
